Title: I spent 70+ minutes watching a product leader explain why the PM role is being quietly disrupted. Here's what every knowledge worker needs to hear.
Cat Wu, Head of Product at Claude Code (Anthropic), just gave one of the most honest breakdowns of how AI is reshaping product development — and by extension, every professional role.
Three things that stuck with me as a lawyer:
1. Roadmaps are becoming a liability.
When features go from months to days, rigid long-term planning becomes friction. The new competitive advantage? Weekly iteration + sharp product taste. The ability to *decide what to build* is now more valuable than the ability to build it.
2. The line between "PM" and "engineer" is dissolving.
Technical proficiency isn't just a bonus anymore. It's becoming baseline. The same is happening in law — lawyers who can't read a data room, understand an API contract, or navigate AI tools are losing leverage fast.
3. Mission > Metrics.
Anthropic's teams operate under a single north star: safe AGI for humanity. When everyone shares the same mission, you don't need approval chains. You move.
The question I keep asking myself:
*In a world where execution is cheap, what is my irreplaceable contribution?*
For lawyers, it's judgment. Context. Relationships. Trust.
But only if we're willing to stop competing on tasks AI already owns.
What's your "product taste" equivalent in your field?
